I helped Medicinal Media with art direction and motion graphics for an upcoming video series focused on Body Dysmorphic Disorder and the Pain Somatic Response. They needed a variety of creative work from animated characters to transitions and lower thirds titles. I provided art direction for the project with concept designs, mood boards and color keys. I also animated all the graphics in After Effects from concept to completion.
ROLE:   Art Direction  |  Motion Graphics & Design  |  Animation  |  After Effects
For the Pain Somatic Response video, they wanted to visualize the "Flight, Fight, or Freeze" response through colorful, animated illustrations. I storyboarded the full animated sequence and then created an animatic for client approval.

For the illustrations, I collaborated with the talented Jon McCormack. I separated Jon's illustrations into multiple After Effects layers and animated all the sequences.  I layered in lots of extra textures, grain, and parallax to give the animations a more cinematic tone.

In the final video, the animations will play while a somatic therapist explains the science and emotions behind the condition.

The following animation was used when the therapist explained how our body's nervous system is always trying to protect us.
For Body Dysmorphic Disorder, they needed a quick transition graphic to help define the condition. I designed and animated an energetic and textural segment to engage viewers.
In another section of the documentary, they asked questions to licensed therapists and psychologists. I created some fun and colorful transitions to help present the ideas.
For the lower thirds titles, I created an energetic intro/outro style and then animated 10+ titles for all their various speakers. The following video only shows a couple of examples and uses stock footage (since they were still filming interviews while I was creating all the titles).
For social media, I created several title reveals teasing the upcoming series. The following uses Medicinal Media's brain logo to playfully introduce the tiles.
